Water-based screen printing is a special method for printing on clothing. Although plastisol is the most common method, recent technological developments have led to special inks for screen printing.
It is important to emphasize the distinction between water-based printing and discharge printing. Water-based printing is generally used for light-colored garments, such as white, light blue, yellow and pastel shades. While discharge printing is applied to dark-colored garments, such as black, navy blue, maroon and purple.
How does water-based printing differ from plastisol printing?
Waterbased screenprint is a special ink that is absorbed by the fabric, resulting in a softer and more breathable feel compared to plastisol printing. The finished product almost feels like nothing! In addition, this method is environmentally friendly, which makes it even more attractive.
For printing on dark garments, we use discharge printing, a variation of water-based printing with additional pigments. This allows the ink to be applied to dark fabrics while maintaining a super soft and lightweight finish. We also apply an undercoat to make the colors "pop. If you want to achieve a vintage or faded look, we can also print directly on the garment.
There are some important considerations when using a Pantone color with water-based ink. The exact Pantone color may not match that of plastisol ink due to variables such as garment dyes, fabric texture and the amount of ink used. While we do our best to match the desired color as closely as possible, it may be necessary to suggest a different printing style if an exact color match is required.
